Here are three recipes for ear cleaning solutions.
The first one is the one I use most often.

Mix in a small bottle, shake before use, and wipe the ears,
with a paper towel, diaper wipe, (which work pretty well all by
themselves) or with cotton balls.

This is for the skin of the dog's ear, he won't like it much
if you fill the ear canal up, so be careful.
"Are your ears clean?"
# 1
(a great skin cleaner)
Mix 1/2 vinegar
or hydorgen peroxide
with 1/2 rubbing alcohol.
This cleans well, and the ear dries quickly after wiping.
# 2
(kills fungus)
Mix and shake together:
15 ml of glycerine (drug store)
   15 ml of water
6 drops of Tea Tree Oil
Leave on the skin for five minutes & wipe the ear clean.
# 3
(kill mites)
Mix and shake together:
8 parts Liquid parafin (drug store)
1 part   benzl benzoate  (drug store)
Leave on for five minutes & wipe the ear clean.
These are what I use as needed.
Sometimes I will use # 1 to wipe the ear
clean after using # 2 and # 3.

Though Collies rarely have ear mites or fungus, since
their inner ears get plenty of air, these formulas do
work well for floopy-eared breeds that have fungal &
mite problems.   If the problems were persisitent, I
would clean the ears with the needed formula,
wipe the ear clean and then reapply a light
coating to the skin of the ear again.

I would repeat this at least weekly
until the ears are healthy again.
