
Ectropion is when the eyelid rolls or sags outward, usually the lower lid.
Ectropion may cause irritation from the eyelid being exposed to air.
The mode of inheritance is polygenic (more than one gene involved).
Symptoms are mucus from the eyes, tearing and redness.
Mild to moderate ectropion may need no treatment.
Surgery is available if this condtion is severe.
Any dog that has had this surgery is not allowed to be
entered in dog shows, even though it is a surgical
correction neccessary for medical reasons.
Breeds this is common in:
Bassett Hound, Bloodhound, Saint Bernard, Cocker & others.

Entropion is when the eyelid rolls or folds inwards.
Entropion may cause irritation from eye lashes and hair to rub the
cornea (clear part of the eye).
Breeds this is common in:
Shar Pei, Bloolhound, Bassett, Saint Bernard, Cocker Spaniel,
Labrador Retriever, Bull Mastiff, Irish Setter, Poodle,
Cavalier King Spaniel, Chow Chow.
This usually shows up by six month old.
Treatment is the same as above for Ectropion.
