Inquinal/Umbilical Hernia
Hernias are a protrusion through the abdominal wall.
There are two types of hernia, true hernias and delayed closure hernias.

In most cases hernias is not a problem if the hole is small.  These are usually delayed closure
hernias, where the abdominal wall has not closed.  True hernias may be larger and the hole itself
is round and surrounded by a tough tissue.  Delayed closure hernias are usually smooth to the
touch (when nothing is protruding through it.

Large hernias should be repaired surgically, since it is possible that the internal organ that is
protruding may become trapped and cause that part of the organ to become infected and even
die.  Many times the operation is done at the same time neutering is done.

True hernias are inherited, but delayed closure hernias do not appear to be.
