Begin teaching your puppy or dog to sit as soon as you get him home. Your eight week old puppy is very capable of learning to sit, lie down and stay. Training your puppy at an early age will be easier on you and on your new puppy or dog because he is small and and easy to handle.
Sometimes your dog will sit crookedly. To correct this just reach down and push him into the correct position, so that he is sitting squarely on his haunches. I do not say anything when I make a correction, such as this. Use the word 'sit' only when you want your dog to go into the sit position. Corrections need no verbal cue, just place him in the correct position again and again until he stays in the correct position. * You can see how much easier it is to work with a young puppy, than an older, larger dog. They are both smart enough to learn, but it is easier to handle him physically, when he is smaller.
If you want your dog to sit each time he comes to you.... call him over, say sit, & when he sits, immediately give him a treat as you tell him how good he is.
